No blog? The top reasons you’re missing out

This is a more general post than normal… it’s aimed at EVERYONE, not just people in business. This is because I truly believe that everyone should be blogging! No matter who you are, whether it be for business or pleasure… you should be blogging.

I’ll cut straight to the chase – blogging is an incredible way to explore your passions.

Here are a few reasons why writing a blog should be high on everyone’s to do list… if you’re a blogger yourself, please use the comments to add your own reasons. All these are true whether you’re blogging for business or pleasure.

  • Researching your topic in detail adds hugely to your knowledge and understanding of the subject.

  • Examining your beliefs through researching and writing about them can be a form of therapy, bringing clarity to your life.

  • It brings you in contact with a geographically disparate community of people who share your passion, and gives you a voice amongst them.

  • A blog demonstrating your knowledge of your industry is the most powerful CV you could ever have

  • Knowledge is power

  • It gives you power as a consumer to ensure that you get the service you deserve. Brands, quite rightly, see bloggers as bigger PR threats than individuals without a soapbox
  • It can turn your passion into a means of living, or turn your means of living into a passion

  • If you’re a fashion blogger, then there’s no better way to crystallise your opinions on style than to take the time to write and publish them to an opinionated audience.

  • If you’re a political blogger, there’s nothing like writing about this policy or that piece of legislation to get a solid grip on what it means, not just from your unexamined gut feeling, but from the point of view of your readers.

  • For business bloggers, writing about industry news and the beliefs and processes that make your business unique in a crowded marketplace is a powerful way to show expertise and thought leadership, and build profitable audiences.

  • When you’re writing a blog post, you have to organise your thoughts, consider the counter-arguments and broaden your understanding.

  • The fact that what you publish is going to be scrutinised by people who don’t know you forces you to ensure that the points your making are valid.
  • It’s by examining a topic in detail and building your knowledge in this way about subjects you’re passionate about that you can become a genuine expert

  • The power of a blog builds as you invest time and effort into it, so start now! What are you waiting for?

If there was ever a moment to follow your passion and do something that matters to you, that moment is now.
